So I’m sitting here asking myself why it took me ages to make a No-Churn Coffee Crumble Ice Cream recipe, when it is in fact one of my favorite classic ice cream flavors. Ever since my first no-churn ice cream success, I’ve pretty much been addicted to finding interesting no-churn ice cream recipes to try. Some of them end up being successes, and some of them end up tasting too sweet thanks to the condensed milk.

Take this particular No-Churn Coffee Crumble Ice Cream recipe for instance. It’s not what I would call the PERFECT recipe by a long shot, even if I very much love the blog I adapted this recipe from. Despite having a nice coffee flavor, the condensed milk was overpowering. It made the ice cream unnecessarily sweet. Most of my add-on’s also sunk to the bottom, but I do appreciate how those cashew bits gave my taste buds a break from all the milky sweetness.

I know it sounds like I’m complaining about this recipe (and partly I am lol), but there’s actually a reason why it ended up on the blog in the end. Obviously I never post about anything I hate or that didn’t work out, even if it’s something I poured a lot of time and effort into making. However, I find this ice cream to have a very unique “talent”: It makes an amazing coffee float. Seriously amazing.

Super easy Homemade Ube Ice Cream, no ice cream maker needed!

I really must credit the sorbeteros for starting my love affair with avocado and queso and ube ice cream.  When I was a kid, I remember often being on the lookout for ice cream carts passing by my school during recess. The smart manong sorbeteros would park just below the classroom windows on the ground floor, where we could reach through the railed windows for our orders. I remember vividly how hands would reach out of the window and come back in with cones piled high with differently colored scoops.

Technically, we weren’t allowed to be buying stuff through the windows; but I’ve always felt that the occasional trouble was worth the prize. Every time a teacher came over to reprimand us, we’d simply find another window in another classroom to do our ice cream transactions. Gosh was life simple back then! All it took to make me smile was a big lump of purple ube ice cream staring back at me atop a cone.

To make these, we are again enlisting the help of Alaska Classic Sweetened Condensed Milk and Evaporated Filled Milk. I personally don’t think this recipe is difficult, but it does take more time to accomplish compared to the recipe I shared before of the Alaska Condensed Milk Cake with Alaska Evaporated Milk Whipped Cream.

Since we are dealing with ice cream here, it needs time in the freezer. And since we’re making doughnuts, the dough also needs time to rise before we can do anything with it. It’s mostly a lot of inactive waiting time, and I can assure you it is very much worth it! I guess you can say this is a bit of a project because of that. Before I talk to you more about the recipe, check out the video below to get a better idea of the fun process of creating these Chili Chocolate Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwiches from scratch.

A Sweet Cereal Milk Ice Cream to bring you back to your childhood

It’s been a while since we’ve had cereal of a colorful nature in our house. It’s interesting how as kids we tend to respond to colorful sweet treats, but then most of us sort of deviate from it as we grow older. (Mostly because we realize it’s all sugar haha!) But I must not be the only one missing these treats because my brother just bought a huge box of Lucky Charms!

Nostalgia aside, the reason why I decided to make this Cereal Milk Ice Cream in the first place is because I’ve been wanting to dip my finger into this trend. When my Dad and I visited New York last year, we didn’t have time to go to Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar. And of course, as most of us know, this place is largely responsible for making the Cereal Milk Ice Cream idea popular.

While going to Milk Bar is still on my to-do list, I’m pretty happy that the more close-by Your Local in Makati have created their own delicious version of the Cereal Milk Ice Cream. While Milk Bar uses Cornflakes, Your Local uses the fruity colorful kind. (I’m guessing Fruit Loops since that’s easier to find.)

It’s amazing to think that such a genius concept can stem from something as mundane as spending countless breakfasts relishing that last sip of cereal infused milk. Guess some people are just born with a different level of creativity!
