Matcha Financiers 1 - These Matcha Financiers will make teatime even classier

Sometimes, friends are the antidote to stress and fatigue.

Last weekend I went out with two of my close high school friends and I realized that it has been AGES since I’ve done any of that. I’ve been so drained from work lately (how many times have I mentioned this?) and this little meet-up proved to be something of an energy booster.

You guys have no idea how long it has been since I’ve met any of my friends face to face. Catching up with them made me forget completely about the time! Of course there was some ramen involved– and some Korean bingsu, with mozarella-topped tteokbokki on the side.

Right after coming home I began to imagine where and when my next reunion with a friend would be. I suddenly realized that I’ve been missing so many people. How did I stand not seeing them for so long?

It annoys me whenever I have to be MIA from the blog for a long period of time, but I’ve been getting attacked by these headaches lately that I think is caused by tired eyes. That means less time on the computer, but I’ve been working on the blog behind the scenes. Even though I actually feel iffy about not posting anything since early last week, I just wasn’t feeling up for it. Until yesterday.

I baked one of my favourite pick me up’s yesterday morning and I thought it would be nice to pop in real quick and talk about it today. You know what Maria always says in The Sound Of Music? ‘I simply remember my favourite things, and then I don’t feel soooo baaaaad!’ Cheesy as it sounds it’s kind of true. This is one of my favourite super easy treats, and it sure put a smile on my face when I baked it!

Sometimes ideas start out just like that– ideas. It isn’t until you act on it and find a way to execute it that it becomes a reality. Cravings are the same way. They bloom in your mind and don’t go away for a fair amount of time until you acknowledge them. But unlike cravings, ideas can slip through the cracks if left unattended, never to be seen or conjured again. I always dread those moments the most, especially because I tend to have a lot of things swirling in my head at a single time and one dominant thought pushes the others away goodbye.

When I get a flash of brilliance at the most inopportune moments and can’t get my thoughts on paper down immediately, sometimes the exact idea is no longer the same some minutes later. I hate it a lot when I come up with things– a brilliant dialogue for one of the stories I’m always developing, for example– in the middle of walking or commuting home. I simply cannot just stop at some street corner to jot it down. Whipping out my phone is out of the question because there is an 80% chance it will get snatched. I don’t actually live in a bad neighborhood, but in essence all of Manila is pretty much a hazard zone whether you’re on the street, on a bus, on the train… So I have to wait until I arrive home safely before I can do anything, and by then the dialogues are no longer exactly the same as in the moment it first crossed my mind.

That’s both the beauty and the tragedy about ideas isn’t it? When you get them you can get them good, but when you don’t scramble to hold on to them by putting them on paper you can just pretend it never happened. But cravings? Well those keep coming back.

These brownies have changed the way I feel about brownies

Happy new year, everyone! How fast did 2014 zoom past?! I actually feel a bit like I accomplished nothing the past year because of the way I constantly lost track of time. I have a lot of high hopes for this year though, mostly in the way of personal productivity and improvement. And not to get all superstitious on you or anything, but they say the way you start the year is the mood you will set for the rest of it. And if any of that is true then I’m starting this year with a bang.

I’ve said before that I’m not exactly the biggest brownie fiend, but I have to say it’s been a pretty strange twist of events that has led me to this point today, wherein I finally say beyond a shadow of a doubt that I FREAKIN’ LOVE THESE BROWNIES. These are the best brownies I’ve ever eaten. Even better than Baked’s brownies I shared here some time ago, but that’s just my opinion.
