The angels sing about lime and pistachio

In truth, the macaron was not the first “daunting” egg white recipe I made. It was actually this angel food cake that was so instrumental in boosting my confidence for making egg-white desserts. I made this about a week before my first macaron attempt, but I am only writing about it now because the excitement over my macaron success crashed into and basically obliterated everything else at the time. It didn’t seem fair to write about this in passing while riding the tide of excitement over the macarons. This particular angel food cake deserves more attention than that.

No turning back now + Peanut Butter and Jelly Bars

When I started this whole blogging thing, I had no idea what to expect. All I aimed for was a place to share the things I bake/cook and shoot. Now it feels like a little more than that. Aside from the newfound goal of teaching others and encouraging others to cook and bake too, now I get these crazy ideas and do these crazy things that I probably wouldn’t have had I not started this blog. The summer weather has been odd, abruptly throwing rain in the middle of heat waves whenever it felt like it, like a child throwing a tantrum, or maybe a person splashing water into the face of another in the heat of an argument. Either way, the clouds had caused the sun to cast a dark gray sheen over everything, but thankfully not on our moods. Jason was holding my camera as I messily assembled his birthday cake. ‘Hurry up, will you!’ He told me as he…

Finding joy in books and fudgey chocolate

If there’s one recipe that I have bookmarked since the beginning of time and took about a million years to get to, this would be it. There’s actually a very fun story behind how I came to make these brownies. I had no idea that they were supposedly Oprah’s favourites (not that I care an awful lot), only that a lot of people are buzzing about them. This recipe is actually found in a number of blogs, and so I did not intend on buying its cookbook. However it must have been fate when I stepped into a second-hand bookstore and the bright orange spine of Baked: New Frontiers in…
