I’ve been slacking off, I know. But I have a perfectly good excuse: It’s the weather! Seriously though, with the arrival of the first -ber month we’ve officially entered sweater-weather territory. Aside from finally getting a chance to break out my favourite layered outfits, this weather has made the evenings utterly conducive for lounging around after a long day at work catching up on new shows like Outlander, or surfing the interwebs. Basically anything to do with not blogging, because this kind of weather has a way of activating my lazy bones. And maybe a part of me was stalling too because I haven’t yet decided what to write about…

Of friendship and dimsum + How to make Homemade Dumplings [VIDEO]
Dimsum– quite possibly one of the best things about living in Asia. Also one of the best things about living in a country where there are so many excellent Chinese/Cantonese restaurants. I can eat a whole meal comprised of just these steamed wonders. Dimsum has always been a favourite of mine since childhood, but lately I have come to gain a new appreciation for Dimsum, when two of my bestest friends and I began this tradition of meeting over dimsum and catching up. We try to do it every month if all our schedules permit, and quite frankly it’s one of the highlights of my month whenever we do. There have…

Who needs a reason for homemade Pocky Sticks?
My best friend and I got to talking about our young adult life problems earlier today and we touched on the topic of reasons– of why things happen the way they do, of why people act a certain way and do the things they do. Why. An infinitesimal word made up of three letters, yet possibly one of the most profound of them all. It can go unanswered forever, whisking away any attempt at closure. It has the power to haunt someone for the rest of their lives. It’s a mystery we want solved, it seems, regardless of what subject or situation is attached to it. Often the explanations are…

{Filipino Food-Love} Days of pan de sal lovin’
I have very real love for breakfast. But among all the breakfast foods I enjoy, I have to say there is nothing quite like a hot piece of pan de sal in the morning. A perfect pan de sal is super soft, light, and airy, with a slightly crunchy exterior. It has just a hint of sweetness that will allow you to eat it on its own or as a sandwich bread. I know people who can scarf down a dozen pieces of pan de sal in one sitting armed with just a piping hot mug of coffee. Regretfully I am not one of those people, because my stomach capacity…

When life kicks your butt, make pizza
Lately I’ve been on a roller coaster of sorts, both physically and emotionally. It has nothing to do with anything particular and everything to do with the normal way of life. Sometimes living can suck the energy out of you, which is ironic in a way. Ending the day feeling tired to the bones feels like proof that I’m living a real life and no longer in the protective bubble that I seemed to have lived in during my years as a student. Life had been fairly simple back then, my only responsibility to do with doing my best in school. I’ve never been much of a slacker in the…

{Built From Scratch} Honey Bun Salmon Burgers with a side of fries
I’ve never been one to shy away from something that requires more elbow grease than is necessary on my part. Modesty aside, almost everything I do is done with more exertion than most people would normally put in, whether it’s school work, any kind of work, or something for my leisure. The principle is that ‘anything worth doing is worth doing well’. If I am going to dedicate some of my precious time doing something anyway, might as well dedicate some effort to ensure that the results are worth it. During the days when I feel particularly assiduous, I like to build things from the ground up to create something…
