A farewell to summer, but never to ice cream

The weather has been crazy lately; changing from a sweltering summer heat to gloomy and rainy in a span of mere hours, and then back again. After an angry bout of rain, a blinding sort of sunlight beams itself down and soon enough the ground is dry and all signs of storm in the previous hour disappears. Until it rains again, that is. It’s the sort of indecisive weather that can make people catch colds. It’s the sort of indecisive weather that ruins plans. However there are certain things that aren’t dependent on the weather, and easily plenty of them involve food. There are comfort food and spicy food best…

Nestle’s #Drumstickdares + a recipe for yummy Rum Raisin Ice Cream

Nestle’s ice cream department seems to be on a roll lately. After coming up with their Temptations Flavours of the World collection, (French Salted Caramel, I love you!) this time they are presenting us with something equally flavour-packed but a bit more handy. Which is to say, they have created ice cream you can carry around because it fits perfectly in your hand. Interestingly enough, the new flavours are rather fancy stuff, with names like Butter Pecan Praline, and Pistachio Almond Caramel. But they also have more classic offerings like Choco-Vanilla and Coffee-Caramel. You can check out my review on the Drumsticks at the bottom of the post. For now,…

My first candied bacon creation: Candied Bacon Ice Cream

I find this whole candied bacon phenomenon quite fascinating. I think it’s rather nice that people are beginning to become more playful with their palate, opting for combinations of flavours instead of just straight sweet, or straight salty or spicy or sour. Sometimes it really pays to be a bit more adventurous with the food you eat, and it doesn’t even have to be as extreme as eating fried bugs or any of those “exotic” stuff. My satisfaction in making things like these comes in the form of being able to introduce them to my family, my parents especially, to help broaden their views on how food is changing these…

Inspired by Nestle Temptations Dutch Speculoos Ice Cream

The other day, some folks from Nestle sent me their new Nestle Temptations Flavours of the World Dutch Speculoos ice cream. A mouthful, I know, but the only three words you really have to remember are ‘Nestle’ and ‘Dutch Speculoos’. And yes, it is as good as it sounds. And because I am always looking to recreate things I like eating, the Nestle Dutch Speculoos ice cream inspired me to attempt some Speculoos-flavoured ice cream right here at home! I know normal people would just run out to the store right now to buy pints of the Nestle Dutch Speculoos just like my cousin did when I shared a sneak…

Because ice cream reminds me of her

My grandmother passed away on the very first day of the year. I know, what a way to start 2014 right? It’s why I’ve been MIA these past few days, save for that pre-scheduled sponsored post. I just didn’t have the heart or the energy to do anything but wallow for a bit. My Ah-ma, as we called her at home, was an enormous part of my life, and as cliche as my next words might sound, I finally understand what other people mean when they say a part of them has been ripped out leaving only a void. It’s a real feeling. My grandmother was a tremendous person. I’ve…

Some much needed zen and ice cream

I think I’m beginning to fall hard for matcha. I went on a holiday to Hong Kong recently and I managed to get a taste of various matcha-flavoured food throughout. With the Matcha Espressos and Matcha Panna Cottas I enjoyed, it’s safe to say that Hong Kong has discovered the magic of this wonderful green substance.  I’m waiting for that to happen in Manila. Despite matcha being slightly more popular in Hong Kong, I still unfortunately was not able to get hold of pure matcha powder in any of the mainstream grocery stores I checked. (Anybody who knows where in Hong Kong I can buy it, please give me a…
